Civic Celebrations

In Küssnacht am Rigi, the Swiss Saint Nicholas, Samichlaus, arrives in the forest in mid-November. He leads crowds of families and children down the mountain to the town. In the following weeks Samichlaus visits in schools, other institutions and homes. The festival climaxes with Klasjagen parades with the distinctive large iffelen on 5 December.
