Sinterklaas brought a bit of home to Dutch soldiers stationed in Afganistan. The Netherlands Army Task Force Uruzgan was part of NATO's Regional Command South, International Security Assistance Force, in Afganistan from 2006-2010. One of four Provincial Reconstruction Teams in the region, up to 1900 Dutch troops were helping maintain order, training Afghan police, and working to develop political and economic infrastructure int he area. At least 24 Dutch personnel have been killed and a further 140 injured.
