Reproduction of 1929 medal; The insignia is a cross pattéwith an image of Saint Nicholas Thaumaturgus, surrounded by griffins from the Romanov coat of arms, with swords between the arms of the cross. The medal was awarded originally to veterans of the Great War 1914-1917.

The Imperial War Order of Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker was founded in 1929 by Grand Duke Cyril Vladimirovich and given to Russian veterans who had fought in World War I. A similar order had been founded by General Wrangel in 1920.
