St Nicholas Parish Church

Church of England (Anglican)

Steventon, Hampshire

England UK

The church is a small, simple Norman building, dating to around 1200. It is much as it was originally, with some minor alterations through the centuries. The walls are up to more than a metre thick. Jane Austen worshiped here the first 25 years of her life, while her father the Revd James Austin was the rector. The family lived opposite the church in the long-demolished rectory. Unlike the Chawton St Nicholas Church where she attended most of her adult years, this one looks much as it did when she was here.
