To God be praise, for all His Saints

Heil. Nikolaus
"Heil. Nikolaus"
Holy card, Germany
St Nicholas Center Collection

To God be praise, for all His Saints,
Who trod the Heavenly way.
To God be praise for Nicholas,
Whose Feast we keep to-day.

Saint Nicholas in cloak of red,
When nights were dark and cold,
To rescue maidens from their shame,
Bestowed three bags of gold.

Three choir-boys he sought and found,
And woke from deathly sleep.
His prayers for sailors in distress,
Preserved them from the deep.

No Bishop 'ere was more beloved,
By young and old than he.
Wherever Santa Claus is known,
His name shall honoured be.

When ancient craftsmen built our Church,
Well founded, deep and strong,
They named it to Saint Nicholas,
To stand through ages long.

To God be praise, for all His Saints,
Who trod the Heavenly way.
To God be praise, for Nicholas,
Whose Feast we keep to-day.
