Newchurch-in-Rossendale, Lancashire, EnglandCeremony of the Boy Bishop
2007 saw the revival of two traditional customs at St. Nicholas—selection of the May Queen and a Boy Bishop. The parish observed the Ceremony of the Boy Bishop from 1958 until 1975. The restored tradition used the original form for the service, the original vestments, now reburbished, and a special hymn. The Boy Bishop read the epistle for the St. Nicholas Day installation service, the prayers at the Christingle service, and will perform other tasks during the year.
