After processing, St Nicholas is given a place of honour in the sanctuary. The sermon tells the story of the good saint in relation to the Gospel for the day. At the Communion St Nicholas stands together with his helpers at the high altar to give a bag of gold chocolate coins to each person who comes to receive the sacrament or a blessing. If they remove their shoes a bag is placed in each shoe!
