Hereford, Herefordshire, EnglandEvensong Ceremony of the Boy Bishop
Hereford Cathedral was the first place in England to revive a boy bishop tradition. It began in 1973 as part of a Gift Service for the Church of England’s Children’s Society, but without the traditional ceremonies. In 1982 the cathedral incorporated some of the traditional liturgy into Evensong. The interest taken in the ceremony because of the issue of the 1986 stamp led to including the procession around the cathedral and the blessing of the people by the Boy Bishop.
