Saint Nicholas Day

Website

Saint Nicholas traditionally begins at the parish church of St. Nicholas. His procession includes torch-bearing young people. In the square he embarks by ship to the concert hall. There primary children present a program of songs and poems. The good saint addresses the gathered hundreds before distributing the traditional St. Nicholas Day sweet bread. The bread is known as Nikolaus, or Weckmann and is now also made for St. Martin’s Day.
