Everson, Pennsylvania, USAPolish Wigilia Dinner—1st Saturday in Advent
Following a traditional Polish Wigilia (Christmas Eve) dinner, held on the first Saturday in Advent, parish children in Polish costumes sing Polish Christmas carols. St. Nicholas comes to give a decorated Polish pierniki (honey spice cookie) and small gift to all the children who answer his questions correctly. St. Nicholas comes again on Sunday to visit the children in the School of Religion. The week before his visit, a handout about St. Nicholas and a packet of St. Nicholas Magic Dust is sent home to each family. St. Nicholas traditions are an important part of parish life.
