Palazzo Adriano, Sicily, ItalyLa Festa di S. Nicola
The Palazzo Adriano festival is one of the most special ones in Sicily. When local children lose their teeth, the tooth is put under the pillow and tossed onto the roof of nearby houses the next day, saying a particular prayer. Festival foods include a special vegetable soup made with homemade pasta, “l virgineddi”, and a bread, “panuzzi”, made in the shape of three balls. The bread is distributed to everyone following the Mass celebrated by nine priests. The statue of San Nicola is carried through the streets in an evening procession.
