La Crosse, Wisconsin, USAFill the Boot: St. Nick’s Boot
The 7-foot tall boot was a joint project of the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration and the La Crosse Tribune to bring awareness of other’s needs to the public and invite the community to help fill those needs. The boot first appeared on St. Nicholas Day at Riverfront collecting practical things for people with disabilities; 15 bags of gifts were collected. Next it went to the YMCA Teen Center to be filled with things to make the center more effective. Last the boot hosted a food drive to benefit Help Hunger Task Force food bank; 400 pounds were donated for hungry people. The community demonstrated St. Nicholas’ spirit of putting others first and giving abundantly and anonymously to meet their needs.
