Dampfzug-Nikolaus

Website

Each year the Bavarian Railway Museum sponsors steam train rides around Munich. The trips last one hour and leave from Ostbahnhof, with four trips a day. St. Nikolaus visits each child, asking if they’ve been good or not, and has surprises for all the children. The trips are on the first two Advent weekends; there are also school group trips during the week.

Nikolaus says, “I make my way through the train in my St Nicholas costume. In the older carriages of course noise is an issue—you have to shout to be understood. I greet the passengers, paying most attention to the children of course, and then there are small presents from Krampus. Most of the children are amazed, they react very positively but some of the smaller ones can be a bit scared sometimes.”
