Old St Nicholas Parish Church

Prestwick, Ayrshire Scotland UK

[Roman Catholic/Reformed]

The ancient burgh of Prestwick grew up around the old Church of St Nicholas, whose ruins are said to date back to the 1100s. Originally a monastery church, it was modified following the Reformation, adding square-headed windows in the 1700s. The name Prestwick derives from "Priest wick" — the town or place of priests. Prestwick has origins in the 7th and 8th centruies when the area was held by the Kingdom of Northumbria.
