Sankt Nikolaj Kirke

Copenhagen Denmark

[Evangelical Lutheran]

There has been a Sankt Nicolaj church here since the 1200s. The church burned in 1795; only the tower was saved. Rebuilt from 1914-1917, the present building was dedicated and given to the City of Copenhagen to be an exhibition hall. It did not serve as a church again. The Nikolaj Contemporary Art Center (Nikolaj Kunstshal) contains four galleries and two permanent exhibitions.
