Nikolaikirche

Berlin Germany

[Evangelical Lutheran]

The oldest church in Berlin, Nikolaikirche dates from 1230, though the gothic style nave is from the 15th century and the towers, the 19th. The church is where residents converted to Lutheranism in 1539. The city council first met there in 1809. Heavily damaged during World War II, it was reconstructed between 1981 and 1987. The Berlin parliament was constituted here following reunification in 1991. It is now a concert hall and a museum with exhibits of sacral art and history of Berlin before 1648.
