Nicholas is in the center, scenes from the life of Jesus surround him on the outside panels. Made specifically for travel, the hinged side panels fold over the center to provide protection for the holy images and compactness for travel. The scenes illustrate the four major Orthodox Church festivals: Christ's entry into Jerusalem, Presentation of the Christ Child in the temple, Christ's Descent into Hell, and the Ascension into Heaven.
