Father Maur Van Doorslaer, OSB St. Andrew's Abbey Ceramics Valyermo, California, USA 2003 Ceramic 10 1/4 inches
Fr. Maur, from Flanders, Belgium, visited the Priory in 1965, to establish a ceramics industry. He produced a new ceramic art, called cookies, because of the simplicity and child-like attitude and because they reminded him of Saint Nicholas cookies given to children in Belgium. They are noted for large, wide open eyes expressing wide-eyed wonder at the beauty of God, our world and its beauty, seen as through a child's eyes.
