The stamp commemorates the Monastery of the Nativity of the Virgin in Ferapontovo. One of medieval Russia's greatest artists, Dionisy, painted the interior of the Nativity Cathedral in 1502 with the assistance of his two sons. It is the most complete and authenticated example of his work. The monastery is listed on UNESCO's World Heritage List.
