Hans Holbein the Younger painted the Solothum Madonna in 1522. Mary and Child are shown with saints thought to be Martin or Nicholas and Ursus or George. The painting was lost in the 16th century and discovered in 1864 in a tiny chapel at Grenchen, near Solothum. It was then badly restored. The 1971 restoration recovered the original painting as much as possible. It is now in the Museum der Stadt Solothurn, Solothurn, Switzerland.
