St Nicholas is gathering children to him, recalling our pre-school and its children. Kindly St Nicholas blesses each child. Above his head the three balls remind us of the three bags of gold he threw in the window of three young sisters who were unable to marry because they had no dowries. At the bottom of the window we see a view of Lower Manhattan in the 1940s: the Singer, Woolworth, Empire State, New York Central, Chrysler and other identifiable buildings, cars of the 1940s on the streets, a bi-plane flying overhead, and the RMS Queen Mary making her turn up the Hudson to dock at the Cunard Docks at Chelsea Piers.
