The church was originally just the Church of San Nicolás de Bari and was located in the center of Havana's Arab neighborhood. It was consecrated in 1854. The dedication was changed in 1954. The church has an altar of the Lebanese saint San Marón and served in the first half of the 20th century as the meeting place for Christian Arabs who had immigrated to Havana.
