Church Website

The church dates from the 1200s, though the ancient well inside the lych gate is thought to be the place where St. Mawgan (a sixth century Celtic saint) first preached and baptized in the valley. St Nicholas was added to the dedication by 1310, as Celtic saints were not recognized in the Roman calendar. In 2000 an extension with kitchen, toilets, boiler and meeting rooms was added. The village is known as Miss Marple’s St Mary Mead, the BBCs choice for the Agatha Christie series.
