Church of England (Anglican)
This simple church was first dedicated in 1505 to St Winwolus, the first Abbot of Landevenac in France. In 1881, badly needing repair, it was completely rebuilt, except for the tower. At that time it was reconsecrated to St Nicholas. The church belongs to the Egloskerry Benefice.
Many of the ancient stone-built churches in Cornwall are in remote parts of the countryside, rather than in the heart of communities as is prevalent in the rest of England. This is because Christianity was brought to Cornwall in the 5th and 6th centuries by wandering missionaries who frequently lived as hermits. Churches were later built in some of these places.
