St Nicholas Church

West Horndon, Essex England UK

[Church of England (Anglican)]

This stone remains from the St Nicholas Church, destroyed in 1735. The church was just a few yards south of West Horndon Hall (later burned, rebuilt in new location and known as Thorndon Hall). The church, in bad repair by 1700, was united with St Nicholas, Ingrave, in 1735. Both churches were in bad condition and were razed. A new church, St Nicholas, Ingrave, was built halfway between the two original churches. Two brasses, shown below, from the West Horndon St Nicholas church were relocated to the new church.
