The underground cruciform chapel, made of French stone and chalk blocks, dates from the middle of the 13th century. It may be been a storehouse originally, and later, perhaps during periods of religious upheaval and persecution, used as a chapel for religious services. At the end of the 18th century it was used as a beer hall. The chapel is not accessible to the public as it is on private land with entry through a private dwelling.
