Porlamar, Margarita Island Venezuela

Roman Catholic

The first church in Porlamar was looted and burned by pirates in 1555. Worship was then held in a house church for 400 years until this new church was built. Construction began in 1853 and it was opened to worship in 1864. However it was unfinished and reconstruction began in 1901. The clock was provided by the Syrian community in 1914. The church has a statue of Saint Nicholas and a copy of the statue of the Black Virgin of Monserrat, Spain.
