Orthodox Church in America
The first steps to organize an Orthodox church in Norwich were taken in 1909. The St Nicholas Russian Brotherhood developed plans and a priest was engaged in 1914. As much as possible, parishioners constructed the church, financed with interest-free loans from the members. The church was renovated and refubrished in the 1980s—with new stained glass windows, baptismal font, vestments, gold-leafed cupolas, and a new iconostasis. The Cathedral of St Nicholas the Wonderworker in Pavlovsk, outside St Petersburg, is the parish's sister church.
