Oostduinkerke, Flanders Belgium

Roman Catholic

The original Saint Nicholas church was bombed in 1940 and burned down completely. The new church was built in the dunes between 1952 and 1956. Models of fishing boats in the church represent solidarity with the fishermen from Oostduinkerke.

A Fishermen's Mass is held on the Thursday after the 2nd Sunday in September to commemorate those who were lost at sea and to beseech the Lord, who stilled the storm, to grant them eternal peace.
