Church Website

The original church was built in the 11th century next to Nottingham Castle Gate. Things were not always so peaceful here; at the start of the Civil War in 1642, the Castle was held for Parliament. Forces for the King attacked, then occupied St Nicholas Church and bombarded the Castle from the tower. After they were removed the Colonel had the church completely destroyed to prevent a reoccurance. The homeless congregation rebuilt on the site in 1678. The chancel was stripped of ecclesiastical fittings in 1979 and the nave in 1991.
