St Nicholas Roman Catholic Church

Pakefield (Lowestoft), Suffolk England UK

Roman Catholic

St Nicholas is a chapel of ease to the largest Catholic church in Suffolk, Our Lady Star of the Sea, in Lowestoft. Originally built in 1901 as the South Cliff Congregational Church it became Pakefield United Reformed Church in a 1961 merger. The congregation eventually joined the URC in Kirkley leaving the building empty. In 1995 an ecumenical service launched the newly dedicated St Nicholas Catholic church with a 'Presentation of the Gospels' ceremony in which the retired URC minister gave a Bible to the Catholic priest, symbolizing the continuation of Christian worship and teaching in this place.
