The church was built in 1779 of Bath stone, replacing an earlier Norman chapel, and is the only classical Georgian church in Wiltshire. It was enlarged in 1856, increasing the capacity from 50 to 100.Today the Hardenhuish parish is one of four that make up the North Chippenham Group, with Chippenham St Paul's, Langley Burrell St Peter's, and Kingston St Michael and All Angels.
