The simple ancient church of St Nicholas (ca 1200) was built on the orders of Ethelgeva, daughter of King Alfred. It belonged to the Abbey in Shaftesbury. At the Reformation colorful wall paintings were whitewashed and later the stone altar was buried. The west end bell-cote was added in the 17th century. It is open every day and has regular services and small weddings, as the church seats just fifty. St Nicholas is part of the Wareham Team Ministry.
