Butterwick, Yorkshire England UK
Church of England (Anglican)
The tiny stone-built church sits hidden in behind farm buildings, through pastureland. At one time the main street of the hamlet ran past the church, but over the centuries the village has shifted. An effigy for the second Lord Grimthorpe, who died about 1320, was discovered under the floor during the 1883 restoration. The Butterwick church is part of the Langtoft Benefice with Langtoft St Peter and Foxholes, Cottam and Thwing. Butterwick hosts occasional benefice services, including harvestide in October.
