Church of Sweden (Lutheran)Founded in 1260, the oldest church in Stockholm was dedicated to St Nicholas in 1306. The first Mass said in Swedish was in Storkyrka in 1525. In the mid-1500s, King Gustavus I had the whole choir pulled down to make room for extending the castle moat. Since 1718 all but two coronations have taken place here. Offereings were first gathered in collection-bags in 1869. It became a Lutheran Protestant church in 1527 and is the cathedral of Stockholm today.
