Said to be the 9th smallest parish church in England, Hilfield St Nicholas was a chapel under Sydling St Nicholas until 1848. The ancient church, from the early 1300s, was restored and reconsecrated in 1848, and given permission for burials. Extensively renovated in the 1950s, the pews were remade and spaced further apart, keeping the fine original carved bench ends. Two have been made into a bishop's chair in the Bradpole Church. The end showing St Andrew is on loan to St Andrew's, Leigh. Copies of the originals were made in the 1800s and are in Trent and Glanvilles Wooten Churches. In July 2007 the church became a chapel of ease to St Andrew's, Yetminster, in the Wriggle Valley Benefice.
