The foundation of this medieval church was unsafe and in 1823 it was rebuilt on the same foundations, necessitating demolition again. The present church was rebuilt, using old materials, in 1882, again on the same foundations. Subsidence, war damage, and an earthquake led to near-condemnation in 1943. The church has now been restored to good order. The 15th century tower, arch, north aisle, west wall, and south arcade survive from the medieval church.
