Pavlovsk, Saint Petersburg City Russia
Russian Orthodox
The cathedral was built in 1902 to serve the garrison city and nearly destroyed during the Soviet period. Painted frescos and the carved iconostasis were lost. Nationalized in 1926, it was used as a club, warehouse and military equipment repair shop. Worship resumed during the German occupation from 1941-43. It was then again used as a military workshop. The church was returned to the Russian Orthodox Church in 1991. Restoration began in 1995 and was completed in 2004. St Nicholas Orthodox Church, Norwich, Connecticut, is a sister parish and has provided financial and material support to the church and its members. The church operates a sewing workshop for vestments and other ecclesastical goods.
