Church of St Nicholas & St Swithin

Yelford, Oxfordshire England UK

Church of England (Anglican)

The sixth smallest parish church in England, 56 ft long and 16 ft wide, was built around 1500 on the site of an earlier church. Though dedicated to St Nicholas, St Swithin seems to have been added from 18th century confusion about an earlier bequest to St Swithin's, Elford, Staffordshire. It may not be official, but is now the name in use. Black Death devastated the area and the church fell into disuse and dereliction. The Lords of the Manor rebuilt it in the early 16th century. Services are held twice a month.
