Church of St Nicholas

Gasthorpe, Norfolk England UK

[Church of England (Anglican)]

The Church of St Nicholas, which had been under the patronage of the lord of the manor, was reported in the mid-19th century as being "long in ruins." The chancel is from the 1200s, the nave possibly older; the tower is 15th century. The church was abandoned around 1700 as the village lost population. The parish was consolidated with Riddlesworth St Peter, later combined with St Mary Kenninghall and All Saints Knettishall. The St Nicholas name is still used in the benefice.
