Clonmines, Co. Wexford Republic of Ireland
[Roman Catholic]
This medieval site in the Wellington Bridge Area has remains of four castles and three churches. The Norman St Nicholas Church, dating from the 1200s, served as the parish church within an Austinian abbey complex. The once flourishing town was destroyed in 1400, then rebuilt, but abandoned when sand blocked the port and erosion threatened the town. The church/castle is on private property.
