St Nicholas Church (Weavers')

Khamovniki, Moscow City (Central) Russia

Russian Orthodox

Built by the Weavers' Guild by 1625, it was restructured from 1679-82 in the settlement of weavers who made white linen. It was restored in 1896, 1949, and 1972. The church is said to rival St Basil's for color and beauty of the interior and the tower is one of the tallest in Moscow. Leo Tolstoy was a parishioner here before being excommunicated.
