East Angmering, Sussex England UK
[Church of England (Anglican)]
A pile of flint masonry is all that remains of the Church of St Nicholas that served the village for 400 years. Excavations have revealed an early Saxon church, further developed in the 12th, 14th, and 15th centuries. The highly decorated St Nicholas Church of East Angmering united with West Angmering's St Margaret around 1573. St Nicholas was abandoned and demolished in the 16th century. The land became a garden for St Margaret's Rectory, then a recreational area for Older's Charity School. It is now owned by Arun District Council and opened in 1980 as St Nicholas' Garden. Worthing Archaeological Society is carrying out an excavation and intends to create a permanent footprint of the church (Project Design).More information
