Rome, Lazio Italy
[Roman Catholic]
The palace and family church of the prominent Cesarini family were sacrificed in 1929 to allow excavation of the site. The church had been built on a Roman temple, with columns in the cloister from another temple, and the excavations showed evidence of a sacred precinct of four temples. The church had also been called S. Nicola de Calcarariis as for centuries workshops had turned marble into mortar.
