Eglise-Saint Nicolas de Basse-Yutz

Yutz, Grand Est France

Roman Catholic

The church was rebuilt in 1571 and destroyed in 1815. Rebuilt in 1822, it was badly burned in a fire in 1890. Rebuilt and enlarged in 1925, it was hit by bombs in 1946 and again rebuilt in 1958. After 1970, however, a weakened tower silenced the bells until a new tower was built in 1990. The church is one of the most important contemporary church buildings in Lorraine. Mosaics across the front facade tell the story of St. Nicholas. The statue in front of the church was originally at the Saint-Nicolas brewery that closed in 1986 and was moved to the church.
