Church of England (Anglican)
St. Nicolas is the only church in the city that has been used for worship throughout its entire 850 year history, which goes back to at least 1100s. The Norman church became a sailor's landmark, as it was built on a hill overlooking the Channel. Most of the building dates to 1250, but the earlier limestone pillars from France, south aisle walls, and a portion of the chancel arches are from the earlier time, around 1150.
