Biggar, Lanarkshire Scotland UK
[Roman Catholic]/Church of Scotland
Biggar is an ancient settlement that had a church perhaps as early as AD 500 or 600. The first stone church, 1164, was dedicated to St. Nicholas. The last Collegiate Church to be established in Scotland replaced it in 1545, dedicated to the Holy Trinity, the Blessed Virgin Mary, St Nicholas the patron of Biggar, and St Ninian. It was endowed to suppport a provost, 8 canons, 4 singing boys, and 6 poor nuns. The Reformation brought an end to the Collegiate Churches. The church is now Biggar Parish Church.
