The tiny brick winter St. Nicholas church of the Church of the Fyodorovskaya Mother of God was built in 1689-90. The rounded belfry windows are characteristic of the late 17th century. It is on the site of an earlier wooden church,built 20 years earlier in a cut-down grove of trees, hence, the name Nicholas-of-the-Stumps. whose location is marked by the small pillar in front of the church. St. Nicholas Pensky is the only Yaroslavl church that remained open for worship during the Soviet era.
