Nikolaikirche

Freiberg Germany

[Evangelical Lutheran]

First mentioned in 1225, the church was badly damaged by city fires in 1375, 1386, 1471, and 1484 with repair finished in 1518. It was converted to a Baroque style in 1753 and had further significant renewal in 1884. The church was sold to the city in 1975 and since has been used as a theatre, hosting concerts and exhibitions. Further restoration took place in the 1990s and a campaign is underway to install a new organ.
