Nicolaikirche tower is the oldest building in Lippstadt. Built around 1150 in the center of an open market settlement, before the town was established in 1185. It became Protestant with the Reformation. The church returned to the Catholics in 1802. When it became too small, it was demolished in 1872, saving the Romanesque tower and western nave. A large Gothic hall church was built in 1875. The church contains a number of art treasures.
